Shamrock Garland

 Go GREEN on St. Patrick's Day and celebrate like you're Irish!

Iron-on embroidered letters and a Cricut® Maker to cut felt shapes, makes crafting quick'n easy! 

You will need:

• Joy® Iron-on Embroidered letter sheet - Gold

  

• Kunin® Eco fi Classic Felt, 9” x 12” – Apple Green x 3
• Kunin® Gold Dot Coordinate Felt, 9” x 12” – Black x 3

• Cricut® Maker™ with Rotary blade, or purchase pre cut, 3" Shamrock shapes - 18
• Expo Intl - Gold tassels x 8
• Tacky glue, or lo-temp glue gun
• Iron
• Cord
• Scissors

1.  Cut 18, 3” Shamrock shapes using the “felt acrylic” setting and rotary blade, or use purchased felt shapes.

2. Cut 8, 4” x  6” black felt rectangles.  Fold the strip in half lengthways, then cut from center fold to the outer edge, 2” up from the bottom.  Do not discard the triangle pieces.

3. Remove letters – G O O D L U C K- from the letter sheet then, following the manufacturer’s directions on packaging, iron one letter at the center of each felt shamrock shape.

4. Glue each shamrock to a piece of black felt, then glue a second shamrock at the back of the black felt at the top as shown.  Spread the glue lightly on the felt with the tip of the glue gun.  

5.  Fold the shamrock in half over the top of the black felt and glue to the front to create a tab for the cord.  

6. Glue the tassel to the back by covering the tassel loop with one of the leftover triangles. 

  

6.  Thread the cord thru the loops at the top of each piece, then glue a shamrock to the cord at each end to finish.

Cook up some corned beef brisket for a party platter, serve with a glass of green beer, or Guinness and enjoy!

St Patrick's Day

It's almost St. Patrick's day, the day to raise a glass (Guinness is good), tuck into a meal of corned beef and celebrate!  By the way, you don't have to be Irish to join in the fun...... Cheers!

To create a banner for your celebration you'll need the following supplies:

Joy Embroidered Letters

12" x 20" Piece of canvas fabric

3 Pieces of felt - Dark Green, Medium Green and Light Green

Sticky back black felt

Fabric glue

3/8" Gold ribbon

Gold Metal stickers 

Brass brad

Black marker

Scissors

Green jute

12" Dowel (or cardboard tube from a coat hangar)

12" Decorative ribbon

1. Cut canvas fabric to size.  Note: I use a canvas drop cloth from the hardware store. It is inexpensive and the perfect weight for decorative banners and garlands.

2. Use the patterns as guides to cut the shape of the hat from medium green felt, 3 light green shamrocks,  2 dark green shamrocks and a 7" x 1.75" rectangle of black felt.  Glue the black felt to the hat. 

 

      

3.  To create the shamrock for the hat, cut along the lines as indicated then place the small shamrock on top of the large one.  Poke a hole through the center hold together with the brad.

4. Create a buckle for the hat band with the gold ribbon. Cut two, 2" pieces and two 1.5" pieces. Glue in the shape of a rectangle at the center of the black hat band.  Iron the letters on the brim of the hat then glue the shamrock in place.  Glue the hat to the banner.

  

5.  Create additional shamrocks using the same patterns.  Cut the shapes, then cut all the way through the center on the cut lines to create 4 hearts.  Create the additional shamrocks by gluing 3 hearts together at the base. Glue to the banner then add a gold metal embellishment to the base of each one.  Draw stitch lines from the shamrock  with a black marker. 

6.  Create a border with 12" pieces of ribbon. A narrower decorative ribbon was glued on top of a wider 12" piece of ribbon then embellished with gold, nail head stickers.  Glue to the banner about 2" from the bottom.

 

7.  Fold 2" over at the top of the canvas then glue to create a casement for the dowel, or cardboard tube.  Tie the ends of the jute to each end of the dowel to create a hangar or, if using a cardboard tube, thread the jute through the center then tie the ends together at the top.

Lucky Leprechaun Light

When Irish eyes are smiling, you know St. Patrick's day is coming up and it's time to put on the green and pull out the shamrocks because it's an opportunity to be creative, decorate and celebrate!

 

This lucky leprechaun was created from a green mason jar. I love working with glass and this makes the perfect party light.  Read on, and you'll see why.  Hint: he's keeping a secret under his hat.

You'll need the following supplies:

 

Green Mason Jar

etchall® dip'n etch (glass etching liquid)

Smoothfoam™ Cupcake shape

DecoArt® Gloss Enamels - Burnt Orange & Black

DecoArt Black Paint Marker

Paint daubers 1/2" round

Beacon 3 in 1 Glue

Wiggle Eyes

Button (nose)

Empty soda bottle (1 liter) or plastic container for dip

Sponge brush

Puck Light (optional)

1.  Remove the mason jar lid then fill the jar with glass pebbles/coins, etc (so it won't float when placed in dip'n etch glass etching liquid).

2.  Place the jar inside a plastic container. An empty soda bottle works well. Cut off the top part of the bottle. The top can be used as a funnel and the base is large enough to hold the mason jar. I used a container from the deli store this time since it is just a little larger in diameter than the jar.

3. Fill the plastic container with WATER up to the rim of the jar. (This step will show us how much dip'n etch we will need.)

4. Remove the jar and the water level will sink. Mark the water level on the outside of the container then empty and dry thoroughly. Dry the jar with a soft cloth.

5. Fill the container with dip'n etch up to the water level mark then replace the jar.  Leave for 15 minutes then remove the jar. Dry with a paper towel, remove the glass pebbles then rinse thoroughly. Use the funnel to pour the dip'n etch back into its container.  Don't forget, etchall dip'n etch is REUSABLE! Do NOT discard. 

6. Paint the Smoothfoam cupcake shape and the metal rim with black gloss enamel paint. You will achieve better coverage on both surfaces by dabbing the paint on, not stroking. Let dry, then glue the metal disc to the underside of the metal ring and the base of the cupcake to the top.

7. Use the round dauber to dab Burnt Orange circles in a "U" shape on the smooth side of the jar for the beard (see photo), then glue wiggle eyes and button in place. Draw a smile with the black paint marker. 

 

Option:  Glue a puck light to the underside of the lid to light up his smile!  He'll be sure to put a smile on your face too!
