Sizzix Blog Hop - Project #6

Thursday came far too quickly this week, even for a Quick'n Easy :(    So here's a photo from Sizzix.com showing how adorable the pieces from Brenda Pinnick's album die can be with just a little time and effort.  Rather than totally throw in the proverbial towel, I decided that I ought to be able to do something, so....... 

I layered a few of the pieces added my initial to the center and a now inevitable feather (I ought to make a headdress - a real "feather in my cap"), then wondered what to do with it.  I added it to a papier maché box as a decorative element, then thought it might look nice just "hanging", probably nicer with a ribbon and a bow, but alas and alack I didn't have ribbon in the right color.  What would you do with it?  Inquiring minds would love to know how creative you can be.  (BTW, I won't be offended if someone says diplomatically, or not - start over)....LOL.   Now hop to it and see what Julie FF created this week.  I am always amazed and enthralled at her projects.... if only I had more hours in the day............  Yup, I have to admit I'd still be at the last minute - you know what they say, "if it weren't for the last minute, nothing would ever get done".   Y'all come back now!

Sizzix Blog Hop - Project #5

Can't believe another week has already gone by, and, as usual I realize I have to post a project!  so Last Minute Lucy is at it again with something "Quick'n EZ" - definitely the title of my next book.  Not having time to figure out all the paper engineering, I used the frame with the words.  I covered this piece with silver glitter, then taped a piece of acetate to the back.  I cut a heart from red glitter card stock and glued it to the front and added a wire hanger.  It needed jazzing up a bit, so I gave my heart some feather wings and here 'tis.......  Yes, you've guessed it.  After using feathers on 3 of the 5 projects, so far, you've probably realized I have a lot of them.....  they are kinda fun.  Y'all come back now........

Sizzix Blog Hop - Project #2

This week's shape is the die cut Twist Cube designed by Karen Burniston.  Karen has wonderful instructions including a video for the correct assembly of this shape on her blog, so please check it out.  I've been in a time crunch this week - literally burning the candle at both ends, so I had to go the easy route and I assembled mine as a regular cube to display photos of our four legged family members.  The photos should have been "on point", but as I said, I really needed to have a 5 min project, so this is it.  I also re-photographed my house from last week, with its missing door frame in place!  Just one of those little details that I think make a big difference.  Enjoy!

Sizzix Blog Hop - Project #1

Today is the first day of the new Sizzix Blog Hop.  60 designers are participating and each of us will create a project each week for the next 6 weeks using the same Sizzix dies.  To hop from blog to blog, click "next" in the Sizzix blog hop icon in the sidebar.  Here's my design for Eileen Hull's Scoreboard "House" die.

After cutting the shape from mat board, I used a sponge brush to coat the entire surface with Elmers Fabric & Paper glue, then sprinkled with glitter.  I glued Zucker feathers to the roof with Elmers Tacky glue.  The windows were outlined with Crystal Elements clear stickers and for an added touch, I colored small pieces of acetate with a yellow marker and adhered behind the window.  Place the finished house over a tea light (the little LCD? ones) - don't want to set the house on fire, right.....  If you want to know which glue to use stick this to that, check out Elmers on FB, and "yes", they even have an AP for that!

To Bow or Not

This is the final project in the Sizzix Scoreboard Dies blog hop series. This die is used to cut pieces to make a bow........ hmmm. I seem to remember making all kinds of things with pieces just like these and none of them was a bow. So here is my project. As usual it's quick and easy to make and most important of all - fun!

1. I covered a wooden spool with ribbon. There is a button die cut so I threaded green floss thru the holes, tied a bow at the front then glued it to the front of the spool with a glue dot.

2. I glued a punched flower on top of the spool, but it's not really necessary.

3. I glued a 1/8" dowel in the hole in the spool then covered each of the "ribbon" pieces with paper ribbon. You could cut these from patterned cardstock, of course, but we had white pieces to work with, so I decorated mine with self adhesive paper ribbon - quick & easy is the mantra for my projects.

4. Cut seven, 3/4" pieces of a green drinking straw then place one onto the dowel. These are used as "spacers". Stack the 6 large strips together with the holes at the end aligned then place over the end of the dowel. Add a piece of straw, then starting with the bottom strip, place the opposite end of each strip over the end of the dowel. Push down against the top of the straw piece. Carefully push all the loops down the dowel until they rest on top of the first straw spacer. Separate and arrange the loops evenly as shown. Repeat with the other strips and straw spacers.

5. Cut the dowel about 1/2" above the top of the last piece of straw. Fold a piece of ribbon into a small bow, secure with a small button die cut and embroidery floss, then glue to the top of the dowel. You could also put a star here, or even a butterfly.

Sizzix Blog Hop - #3

This is the third project in the Sizzix blog hop series. The Scoreboard Die we used this time is a rectangle box. Great for party favors, or a small gift box. I covered the box with paper, attached the top to the back with paper fasteners (from the office supply store), folded the sides inwards and glued them together. To decorate, I glued a piece of ribbon around the lid, added some paper roses, a home made tassel from embroidery floss (with another paper fastener) to the front flap, velcro fasteners and voilà it's done. Quick and easy! Bling in a Teacup

It's amazing what you can do with die cuts, glue and a bit of glitter. This is a quick and easy project that would be perfect to use as a place setting. Fill with shreds as shown, or even candy for a sweet treat.

This is what I did:

1. I assembled the Teacup Scoreboard die cut then glued some small circles punched from pink paper onto the front. Using a small paintbrush I covered each circle with Elmer's Fabric & Paper Glue then sprinkled with pink glitter. I used Sugar Coating glitter from Doodlebugs, but any glitter works well.

2. I also die cut 3 flower shapes - 2 medium and 1 large. You can die cut these from colored card stock, or, do as I did, and cut them from white index card stock, then color each flower with water color paint. (I used yellow, orange and blue to match the glitter I wanted to use.)

3. Cut a 4", 5" and 6" piece of wire. Bend one end over into a "U" shape then adhere one piece to the back of each flower. I cut a second flower, covered the surface with adhesive (a tape runner works well) then, with edges aligned, I adhered it to the back of the flower over the wire to hold it in place. You could also put glitter on this side too.

4. To finish I filled the teacup with metallic shreds, adhered a self adhesive "jewel" to the center of each flower then place them into the teacup. Write a name on the tag then attach to the teacup handle with ribbon.
